So Tottenham was hosting Manchester United at their stadium and I really wanted to go watch the game live. Felt like ages since I last saw a proper football match in person. Started planning weeks before because I knew tickets would disappear fast.
First Step: Checking Official Channels
Went straight to Tottenham’s official site early in the morning when ticket sales opened. Man, that queue system felt like waiting in a bread line during wartime. Page kept refreshing itself every 10 seconds while showing this little blue man walking. I literally sat there for two hours drinking cold coffee watching that animation. When I finally got in, only the nosebleed seats were left at crazy prices. Almost paid £120 for a spot where players look like ants.
Reseller Hassles
Next tried those fan resale groups everyone talks about. What a circus! Dudes wanted £300 for single tickets. Got messaged by three different scammers asking for upfront payments through shady apps. One guy sent me a photo of tickets that looked like they were edited in Microsoft Paint. Learned real quick that:
- If the deal seems too good? Scam.
- Seller profile created yesterday? Scam.
- Payment methods sounding dodgy? Scam.
Wasted three days going back and forth with these jokers. Nearly got conned twice when smarter fans in the groups spotted fake screenshots.
Game Day Attempt
On match day I actually rode the tube to Tottenham thinking I might find legit scalpers near the stadium. Total disaster. Cops were everywhere shutting down street sellers. Saw one bloke get cuffed while shouting “I’M OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL!” Met another dude who’d paid £400 cash only to discover his ticket was already scanned. Felt terrible for him – guy looked ready to cry outside the gates.
Ended up watching the game in a pub full of United supporters. They went wild when Rashford scored. Could’ve been worse though – at least didn’t lose money to scammers like some poor souls did. Next time I’ll just settle for TV or actually become a season ticket holder!
