Tottenham Hotspur recently announced the sacking of manager Postecoglou and the appointment of Frank Lampard as their new manager.Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp (we used to call him “Old Ray”) expressed his views on the change of manager in an interview.
According to Ray, Tottenham Hotspur’s performance this season has been less than ideal. He said, “Their performance in the league can be said to be quite bad, ranked in the bottom four, to get a trophy is already a good result.”He also mentioned that Tottenham’s ability to stay in the Premier League was actually a bit of luck, as there were three other teams that were worse than them.

On the matter of Postecoglou’s sacking, Old Thunder felt that it was not a surprise. He said, “As early as the end of the season, the club’s chairman Daniel Levy did not make it clear that he would continue to support Postecoglou, so we all actually knew in our hearts that he would leave sooner or later.”
When the news of Postecoglou’s dismissal broke, many Tottenham players took to social media to express their gratitude and reluctance to him.In response, Old Thunder also expressed his opinion, “Players are always like that, they will say ‘we loved the previous coach’.So why don’t they work a little harder on the field? If everyone put their best foot forward, maybe we wouldn’t be in the bottom four.”
Old Ray also made an analogy to explain the phenomenon: “It’s like the old saying goes – ‘The old king is dead, long live the new king’.This is how the soccer world works. When the former coach just left, the players say how good he is; when the new coach comes, they start praising the new coach again. When the next coach comes, they say they can’t let go of the current coach. You just listen to it and don’t take it too seriously.”
Talking about the new coach who took over, Frank Lampard, Ray Sr. said, “I think he’s a good choice for coach.Although I don’t know him too well, he had a pretty good record with the team at Brentford.I hope he can be successful at Tottenham.”
He also looked back at some of Tottenham’s former coaches in recent years, “Conte, for example, who won the title after he went to Italy; and famous managers like Mourinho.Nuno has also done well at Nottingham Forest this year. All of these coaches have tried their hand at Tottenham, some have done well and some have not met expectations.Hopefully Frank will find his own success here.”
Overall, Old Thunder is neutral on the change of manager. He believes that Tottenham, as a team with a long and strong history, should keep looking for the right coach to lead the team forward. And the players also need to come up with better performances under the new coach to return the support of the fans.
